Did you know Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling recently announced that Dumbledore, one of the book’s main characters, is gay?

Yes, I heard the announcement that Dumbledore is gay.

I knew Dumbledore was gay before the announcement. His clothes were way too fancy, plus his pet, Fawkes, was “flaming”.

I haven’t heard about the announcement.

What did you feel after hearing the announcement that Dumbledore was gay?

I was surprised.

I hated the announcement.

I was happy she outed Dumbledore.

I was hungry. After I heard, I got a sandwich.

Do you believe Rowling when she said, “I always saw Dumbledore as gay.”

I don’t think Rowling ever intended to make Dumbledore gay, she just wants more publicity.

She never thought Dumbledore was gay, she’s making the statement now to raise awareness of gay issues.

I think she is perfectly honest. Dumbledore, the fictional character, is and always was gay.

I have no idea why she said Dumbledore is gay. Personally, I don’t think he is.

Did you think Dumbledore had an unnatural attraction to Harry Potter?

Dumbledore may have been gay, but he wasn’t attracted to Harry Potter.

Their relationship was totally platonic, more like a father and son.

Dumbledore was just using Potter to defeat Voldemort.

Dumbledore may have been attracted to Potter (who can blame him, geeky wizards are the new chic.)

If you were Rowling, how would you have handled the whole Dumbledore sexual orientation issue?

I would have made Dumbledore gay in the book, instead of announcing it after the fact.

Rowling wrote a wonderful book with great characters. If I were her, I would have left this topic alone.

Rowling wrote the book and created all the characters, which gives her the right to make whatever announcement she wants, including outing Dumbledore.

I don’t know how I would have handled it.

What do you think of all the media coverage?

The media should pay attention. The sexual orientation of a fictional character in a children’s book is much more important than such trivial issues as politics, the economy, and the war in Iraq.

The blatant coverage of Dumbledore’s sexual orientation is further proof that the media has a left-wing bias.

I rarely watch the news, read newspapers or surf blogs. If I can help it, I would rather not know what’s going on in the world.

Who cares about all the media coverage! Dumbledore isn’t even real, he’s just a fictional character in a fairytale world.

I don’t have any opinion on the issue – it is so unimportant!
